Veterans Honored Today

Chapter President Geoff Baggett stopped by the Pennyroyal Veterans Center in Hopkinsville today to honor three local veterans with the Veteran’s Appreciation Certificate and Gadsden “Don’t Tread on Me” Challenge Coin.

Veterans honored were Cliff Griffin of the U.S. Air Force, John Sheppard of the U.S. Army, and Caleb Rose of the U.S. Army.

Front-Page Recognition of an American Hero!

Compatriot John Humphries recently presented U.S. Nave WWII veteran Stice Goodwin of Princeton with the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter’s “Veteran’s Appreciation Medal.”  Times-Leader reporter Stacey Menser was present to take pictures of the presentation.  Yesterday the Times-Leader published her wonderful front-page story about the wartime experiences and life of this amazing American hero!  Enjoy!  Click the images for full size and resolution.

World War II Vet Receives Veteran’s Appreciation Medal

Compatriot John Humphries has done it again!  Today he made a very special visit with Stice Goodwin, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.  He decorated Mr. Goodwin with the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter’s “Veteran’s Appreciation Medal.”

We humbly thank this man of the greatest generation for his service.

Local Veterans Receive Chapter Veteran’s Appreciation Medal

This afternoon, in a private ceremony at his office, Col. Stephen Trigg member John Humphries of Princeton presented our chapter’s “Veteran’s Appreciation Medal” to a fellow Caldwell County man.  The recipient was Paul W. Patterson, who served in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam.

We are grateful for Mr. Patterson’s service and hope that this medal will be a humble reminder of the affection and gratitude of his community.

The presentation of our medal to Vietnam Veterans is a part of our ongoing relationship with the Department of Defense as a “50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemorative Partner” organization.  Thus far in 2015 approximately fifteen Vietnam War veterans have been recognized.

Later in the day, John met with another local veteran.  Dale Faughn is a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Marines as a Scout Sniper.  He was in the invasion of Iwo Jima and served in the occupying forces in Japan after the war.

We are grateful for Mr. Faughn’s service and humbly honor him for his service in the Pacific during the Second World War.

Since the inception of the medal last year, the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter has presented it to approximately sixty veterans throughout the area.

Pennyroyal Veterans Center Visit Today!

Compatriots Geoff Baggett and Dennis Adams made a quick visit to the PVC in Hopkinsville this afternoon.  They dropped off several large bags of men’s clothing, along with a $100 donation toward the Veterans’ Scholarship Fund.

While there they took the opportunity to honor a couple of veterans …

Dennis Adams presented our Veteran’s Appreciation Certificate and “Don’t Tread on Me” Gadsden Challenge Coin to Tim Herring of the U.S. Army (left) and Darren Scott of the U.S. Navy.  They also had a third certificate for veteran Jermaine Sydnor of the U.S. Navy and Army (dual service), but he was away on job interview.

While waiting to make the presentations they noticed this new plaque on the wall …  Huzzah!

Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter Honors 22 Vietnam Veterans

On Sunday afternoon the Compatriots of the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter honored twenty-one veterans of the Vietnam War in Cadiz.  Men representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps received a hearty word of thanks from the chapter and from the people of Trigg County.  A group of approximately seventy local citizens came out to support the event.

Speakers included city of Cadiz Mayor Todd King, Trigg County Judge Executive Hollis Alexander and Jeff Broadbent, Director of the Pennyroyal Veterans Center in Hopkinsville.  Vietnam veterans William Lawrence and David Smith brought a brief veteran’s perspective for the supporters in attendance. The ceremony included a flag folding, the presentation of the chapter wreath, special music, and the decoration of several of the veterans with the chapter’s Veterans Appreciation Medal.  All of the Vietnam servicemen received lapel buttons and other materials from the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary initiative.

The chapter presented the flag from the folding ceremony to the Pennyroyal Veterans Center and received a collection of almost $260 for the work of that center. The Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter has enlisted as an official Commemorative Partner through the Department of Defense in the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemorative initiative.  In addition to this event, the chapter also seeks to recognize individual Vietnam War veterans with certificates and medals.

Local Officials Issue Proclamations for Vietnam Veterans Day 2015

This weekend the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter of the Sons of the American revolution (SAR) will host its first event as a Vietnam War Commemorative Partner to honor the Vietnam War veterans of Trigg County.  The ceremony will take place at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Cadiz Renaissance Center.   It will include patriotic displays, SAR Compatriots in uniform, guest speakers, and the formal recognition of Vietnam War veterans present.

The public, all Vietnam War veterans and their families, and interested citizens are invited to attend.

In honor of the event, Todd King, Mayor of Cadiz, and Hollis Alexander, Trigg County Judge Executive, have issued formal Proclamations declaring Sunday, March 29, 2015, as “Vietnam War Veterans Day” in Cadiz and Trigg County.  Both will appear and speak at the event on Sunday.

Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter Honors Another Marine!

Compatriot Dr. Dennis Adams honored another United States Marine with the chapter’s “Veteran’s Appreciation Medal” this weekend.  The recipient was Gunnery Sergeant Larry Jasper.  Gunney Jasper presently serves the community of Trigg County as the instructor of the Alternative Learning Center at Trigg County High School.  We gratefully thank him for his service!

Pennyroyal Veterans Center Visit Today!

Compatriots Dennis Adams and Geoff Baggett visited the Pennyroyal Veterans Center in Hopkinsville this afternoon.  They delivered several items and gift cards that compatriots at Crossroads Fellowship have collected through their church.  In addition, they recognized two resident veterans and honored them for their military service with the Veteran’s Appreciation Certificate and Challenge Coin.
