Steve Mallory Represents in Tennessee!

Compatriot and Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter Vice-President Steve Mallory attended a grave marking in Tennessee Sunday afternoon.  He proudly carried the Kentucky flag in the color guard and fired in the black powder salute to honor Ensign John McMurtry in the Beech Cemetery located in Sumner County, Tennessee.

John McMurtry enlisted in 1775 in the 1st Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental Line.  He was promoted to sergeant after the battles at White Planes and York Island.  He also fought in the battles of Trenton, Princeton, and Germantown.  He worked his way up through the ranks and later earned the rank of Ensign.  In 1779 he went to sea on a privateer , the sloop of war called the Fair American, commanded by Stephen Decatur, Sr., the father of Stephen Decatur, Jr., who earned fame during the War of 1812.

Thank you, Steve, for representing our chapter and our commonwealth!
