Veterans Day 2015 in Cadiz!
The Col. Stephen Trig Chapter joined the other citizens of Cadiz and Trigg County on Veterans Day in two public events to honor our area veterans.
The first event of the day was the annual Trigg County Veterans Day Parade. Ten chapter compatriots took part in uniform. Some marched with flags and the chapter banner, several rode in Steve Mallory’s 1968 Cutlass Convertible, and Ken Oakley provided the special service of driving his convertible for the winner of the James Thomas Chapter DAR’s poster contest winner. The chapter also welcomed Judge Jim Adams, President of the John Manire Chapter in Hopkinsville, who proudly carried the SAR Flag.
Following a brief rest at the end of the parade, County Judge Executive Hollis Alexander led the community in a beautiful ceremony honoring Trigg County’s veterans. During that ceremony chapter president Geoff Baggett presented the SAR War Service Medal to “long distance” Compatriot Glenn Allen Thomas of Alabama. Glenn, a descendant of Trigg County Patriot James Thomas, journeyed to Cadiz this week to participate in the Veterans Day events. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Near the end of the ceremony, Compatriot James Sumner presented the chapter wreath.
