Compatriot James Sumner of the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter SAR, attended last Saturday’s meeting of the James Thomas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). While there he took the opportunity to honor one of its members, Cadiz resident Martha Maxfield, with the Sons of the American Revolution’s “Medal of Appreciation.” The SAR Medal of Appreciation, authorized in 1960, may be presented by the National Society, a state society, or a local chapter to a member of the DAR in good standing in recognition of and in appreciation for outstanding services rendered to the SAR. The award may recognize assistance in forming new SAR chapters, obtaining a specific number of new SAR members or otherwise significantly aiding the SAR programs.
Mrs. Maxfield has been a strong supporter and ally of the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter since its inception in 2012. This unique decoration was given by the chapter to honor her service to its members and programs.
