Affordable Longhunter Frock

Posted in Color Guard, Uniform on March 31, 2014 by Colonel Trigg - Virginia Militia

As it turns out, the link that we posted earlier in the week turned out to be a bit bogus.  The “affordable” price turned out to be for an unassembled (i.e. not sewn together) kit.  If you selected an actual frock, the price tripled.  Raw deal.

This link, however, is the real thing.  It’s a listing on ETSY.

This unit is made to order to fit your size from heavy, high-quality canvas.  And it’s only $50, with $6 shipping!  Half the price of other manufacturers!

Here’s the link.  This lady makes pretty awesome shirts, too!

William Addison Grave Marking Ceremony

Posted in Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter, Color Guard, Grave Marking, KYSSAR, Patriot Ancestor, Revolutionary War Uniform, South Carolina Militia, William Addison on March 24, 2014 by Colonel Trigg - Virginia Militia

Saturday was an unbelievably beautiful day for our grave marking ceremony in Todd County!  We were thrilled that about sixty people, including nine or ten blood descendants of William Addison, attended our ceremony.  It was also an honor to welcome compatriots from the Gov. Isaac Shelby, Lafayette, and Louisville Thruston SAR Chapters who joined us in making this such a great event.

Below you will find a few pictures from the ceremony.  But you can view ALL of our photos by being a guest to our Facebook album.  Membership in Facebook is not a requirement.  You can simply click the link and enjoy the photo show!

Speaking Apearance with PACHEK in Hopkinsville

Posted in Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter, Educational Presentation, Speakers Bureau on March 18, 2014 by Colonel Trigg - Virginia Militia

This morning Compatriot Geoff Baggett spoke to the Pennyroyal Area Christian Homeschool Educators of Kentucky (PACKEK).  This is a network comprised of approximately fifty families from throughout the Pennyrile area who gather monthly for programs and activities.  The Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter provided today’s program.

In addition to telling about SAR and various aspects of Revolutionary War History, Compatriot Baggett distributed 19 copies of the educational CD’s and gave out several promotional packets for the poster, brochure, and essay contests!  We hope that several local homeschool students will have entries in 2014!

After the program, Compatriot Baggett posed for pictures with kids and the moms orchestrated a large group photo with kids of all ages!

New Compatriot – Joshua Claussen!

Posted in Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter on March 12, 2014 by Colonel Trigg - Virginia Militia

We are please to announce that Joshua Claussen has begun the process to join the Col. Stephen Trigg Chapter!

Joshua Claussen

Joshua Claussen

Joshua is sixteen years old, and a sophomore at Trigg County High School.  He will be our chapter’s very first “Junior Member.”  His favorite pursuits outside of school are weather and radio broadcasting.  He actually tracks weather systems and hosts a Facebook weather page called, “JC Your Weather Guy.”  He also helps manage the Facebook weather page, “Western Kentucky Weather.”  Joshua works as a Producer at WKDZ Radio.

Joshua has a very interesting Patriot ancestor.  His 6th great-grandfather was Henry Chaffee of Connecticut.  In April of 1775 he answered the “Lexington Alarm” with the other militiamen of the area in response to the British moving on Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts.  He marched from Woodstock to the relief of Boston, serving five days.  He later served with the same militia company from May until October 1775, and served in the company of Lt. Paine Converse in 1776.

Most of Joshua’s documents have been located and his application is near completion.  We anticipate that he will clear the genealogical process some time in May or June.
